Friar’s Crag is a piece of land that projects out into Derwent Water, offering a great viewpoint of the lake and the surrounding fells. It’s just half a mile from the car park so perfect for a little evening stroll (we sometimes like to combine it with a trip to one of Keswick’s lovely chip shops).
From the car park, turn left and follow the road down to the lake. Once you reach the lake, you can either continue along the road or walk down by the lakeside, which is perfect for kids who want to skim stones or have a paddle. The main path veers to the left around the lake and leads to a small beach area. However, if you keep to the right, you will reach the end of the land that juts out into Derwent Water, where you can enjoy stunning views of the fells.
